Host Home Program

The Host Home Program provides a respite option for carers of Greek speaking background who live in the Southern Metropolitan Region of Melbourne. The Host Home provides a day of leisure and social activities for people who are experiencing early stages of dementia. The program is delivered by two qualified staff from a home environment. Home cooked traditional meals are provided. The program enables family carers to have a regular planned break. A range of activities are offered including:

  • Arts and Crafts
  • Games including memory and card activities, bingo and backgammon
  • Gentle exercise and walking program
  • Outings
  • Reading
  • Music: signing and dancing
  • Conversation and reminiscing

To be eligible for this program family carers will be caring for someone with early stages of dementia or who have cognitive impairment resulting in memory loss and confusion who are: of Greek speaking background, over the age of 65 and independently mobile (may use a walking aid), living at home with the support of a carer, residing in either the Southern Metropolitan Region of Melbourne.

The program operates on Thursdays between 9.30am – 3.00pm. Transport may be provided but will be assessed on an individual basis dependent on distance.

The Southern Region Host Home is delivered in partnership with the Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre Southern Region.
