Fronditha Care has a strong presence in Melbourne’s north, catering to the large Greek population of the area. The Thornbury site boasts the ANESI 30-bed memory support unit for residents with severe dementia and a further 90 beds in the modern three-storey building next door.
The three levels of the new building (completed in 2013), DAREBIN, MERRI and GRANDVIEW, each provide their residents with two comfortable lounge areas, a tavern style dining room and an activities room. All resident rooms are private with their own ensuites. In addition, each level has its own lifestyle and activity officers who offer unique programs tailored to the residents’ interests. Residents can also participate in a leisurely bus excursion four times a week to various places and events.
The outdoor area includes a small orthodox chapel, raised garden beds for residents to tend to and a large BBQ, entertainment and relaxation area.
ANESI, a specialised memory support unit, also provides care to elderly people who live with severe dementia. Each resident has a private room with ensuite. There is emphasis on structure and validation, as well as on Greek culture including food, support, language and activities. There is a well manicured garden with Mediterranean trees and a stone paved outdoor area for residents.
